Clinical Imaging's 2021 Impact Factor is 2.420, a significant movement upwards from the 2020 Impact
Factor of 1.605. This would not be possible without the time and effort, expertise,
and critical thinking of the journal's reviewers, listed below, to whom I wish to
express my thanks. Many of our reviewers are also authors, and some of our most dedicated
reviewers go on to become some of our deeply valued subject editors, to whom I wish
to express my gratitude for the voluntary and vitally important role they play in
this journal's success. As 2023 nears and we are almost three years into the global
COVID-19 pandemic with 6.53 million deaths

, this stark data reminds me to ask myself, but why even care about the impact factor,
aside from as a metric of success and upward mobility, both important yes, but in
the larger context of things? My answer: The Impact Factor (IF) is a measure of the
number of times an average paper in a journal is cited – the higher the impact factor,
the higher the number of citations, the higher number of times an article has been
read, and thus hopefully, the higher is the contribution to advancing knowledge and
positively impact patient care and the profession of radiology, the journal's mission.
