The first edition of Nuclear Medicine: The Requisites appeared in 1995. In my department it became the first text recommended to nuclear
medicine residents upon acceptance into our training program and to radiology residents
rotating through our service. To be sure, we have emphasized that nuclear medicine
is not defined or described in a relatively brief text. Nevertheless, the first edition
was eminently readable, lucid, and succinct yet remarkably complete and I have repeatedly
recommended it to each annual cluster of residents with good reception on their part
and good results in then subsequent clinical–didactic interaction and performance
on board examinations. Of course, over even as brief a time as 6 years, many changes
have occurred, particularly in as dynamic a specialty as nuclear medicine. Happily,
the authors have produced a second edition that is a worthy successor to the first.
